The 2nd week of April was the best time to view sakura, or cherry blossoms in many parts of Japan
this year, and Tsukuba area was no exception. I was very tired from my trip to the US the month
before, but made myself go out because I didn't want to miss this perfect Spring weather!

Namiki - Ohnan Area (Tsukuba City)

It's hard to see sakura in this picture because petals were white or pale pink. From what I've heard on the news, the color of cherry blossoms this year was very pale nationwide.

It's hard to see in this picture, but the cherry blossoms along the walking trail in the Namiki Kinrin Park create a natural tunnel during the cherry blossom season.

Ottonuma Park in Tsuchiura City
A good-sized park in Tsuchiura City, located just south of Tsukuba's Namiki/Ohnan area. This park is known as one of the best hanami, or cherry blossom viewing, spots and a place for one of, if not THE largest flea markets in the area. Finding a place to park can get extremely difficult if you go there during an event such as a flea market. There's a 24-hour convenience store across the street from the parking lot which comes in handy, especially when you have a small one(s) with you! :-)

You'd need to fight for an empty bench during cherry blossom viewing season. Don't forget to bring a picnic mat or two!

This is an owesome park, BUT be warned, you'll be covered in dusts if you visit this park on a windy day!
